BigCommerce Virtual Products and Gift Certificates
CSM supports the selling of virtual products and gift certificates on your BigCommerce storefront. There are, however, some setup changes to take into consideration if you want to sell these products:
- Virtual products are still set up as products in BigCommerce and must be mapped to one of the supported record types (CSM listing, item, item identifier, etc.) in Business Central
- If you sell gift certificates, BigCommerce will create orders with a giftcertifcate value on the order lines. You must map this value to one of the supported record types (CSM listing, item, item identifier, etc.) in Business Central.
- If a BigCommerce order is comprised entirely of virtual products or gift certificates, BigCommerce will not assign a shipping method to it. If you sell virtual products or gift certificates, it is recommended that you set up a CSM shipping method with a Sales Channel Shipping Method of blank and a shipping agent code for something like NONE or VIRTUAL. This will allow CSM to assign a shipping agent code to sales orders that contain only virtual products and/or gift certificates.
- If a BigCommerce order is comprised entirely of virtual products or gift certificates, it is retrieved into Business Central with a status of Completed. This will result in a failure to build a sales order, since the default order status matrix settings in CSM for BigCommerce assign a CSM order status of Error to any order with a BigCommerce status of Completed and no existing sales order in Business Central. If you sell virtual products or gift certificates, it is recommended that you update the related order status matrix line to have an implied order status of New rather than Error.
