How do I update the CSM apps?

To update an extension in Business Central, follow these steps using either the Admin Center or Business Central interface.

Updating via the Admin Center

  • Log in to the Admin Center:
    Access the Admin Center for your tenant at https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/admin.
  • Select the environment:
    Choose the environment (e.g., Production or Sandbox) where you want to update the extension. NOTE: We recommend installing new updates in a sandbox environment for testing before updating your production environment. 
  • Open the Extensions tab:
    Navigate to the Extensions tab to view all installed extensions.
  • Locate the extension:
    Find the extension requiring an update and check the available version.
  • Update the extension:
    • Select the Update Extension option from the menu.
    • Follow the prompts to complete the update.
  • Verify the update:
    Confirm that the extension version reflects the latest update.

Updating from Business Central

  • Log in to Business Central:
    Access the environment where the extension is installed.
  • Search for Extension Management:
    Use the search bar to locate Extension Management.
  • Identify the extension:
    Review the list of installed extensions and find the one needing an update.
  • Update the extension:
    • If an update is available, select the Update option.
    • Follow any on-screen instructions to install the update.
  • Restart the service if prompted:
    Complete any required environment or service restarts to apply the update fully.
  • Verify the update:
    Check the updated version number in the Extension Management page.

Additional Notes

  • Test in Sandbox first:
    Always update extensions in a Sandbox environment before rolling them out to Production.
  • Review Release Notes:
    Release notes should be fully reviewed as part of your testing process, as they may include information on new setup and configuration requirements. Release notes can be accessed via this link:

  • Communicate with users:
    Notify your team of any potential changes or downtime during the update process.  Users should be logged out of Business Central prior to installation of the release; if this is not possible, please advise your users that it may be necessary to refresh or log out/log in to Business Central in order to continue working with the application.
