CSM Listings - Configurable Items

A configurable listing is a parent (Channel Product Type Configurable) with one child listing per variation (Channel Product Type Variation). CSM maintains the relationship on the parent's Listing Children FastTab.

This applies to Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and Magento:

Prerequisites

  • Enable New Attribute Design is on in the sales channel's Listing Management FastTab (see CSM Listing - Attributes and Attribute Sets).
  • An item variation exists for the parent item, SKUs are generated and exploded, SKU Status is Active or No Replenish, and SKU Unit of Measure Code is set if the variations use a different unit than the parent (see CSM Listing - Item Variations).

Creating the Listings

  1. On the sales channel choose Listing > Wizard.
  2. Enter the parent Business Central item. Leave Variant Code blank when the variations are item variants.
  3. Enter a Sales Channel SKU and choose Finish.

CSM creates the parent and all child listings. The wizard also creates the configurable attributes: blank on the parent, populated on each child.

  • BigCommerce: attributes are unique to each listing (non-shared). To show a color option as a swatch, see CSM Listing - Attributes and Attribute Sets.
  • WooCommerce and Magento: shared attributes are reused across listings.
  • Shopify: options appear in the Product Configurable Options group on the parent (Option 1–3 names/values) and Variant Option Values on each child; CSM item attributes are not used.

Sending to the Channel

From the parent listing, Actions > Send to Channel, in order:

  1. Base Info – creates the configurable product; External ID is returned.
  2. Configurable Options (BigCommerce: Attribute Values) – sends option names and values; the channel returns option IDs.
  3. Child Listings – creates the variants; each child receives External Inventory ID / External SKU ID.

Availability is handled exactly as for simple listings – see CSM Listing - Inventory Availability.

Adding an Option Value Later

  1. Item variation: add the value, then Create Item Variation SKUs, Explode SKUs, and set the new SKUs to Active.
  2. CSM item attribute: on the sales channel, Related > Listing > Channel Item Attributes, open the attribute, Actions > Data Sync > Sync Option Values.
  3. Listings: on the parent listing, Actions > Data > Synchronize Item Variations to create the new children.
  4. Send: Configurable Options (or Attribute Values), then Child Listings.

Retrieving Configurable Items

Load Products From Channel creates the parent, children and attributes for configurable products. For an existing configurable listing, BigCommerce and WooCommerce use Retrieve from Channel > Configurable Attributes / Variants; Magento uses Child Listings. Steps are in CSM Listing - Sending and Retrieving Listing Data.

This feature is currently not available for Amazon and Walmart.
