CSM Listings - Images
Images are stored on the CSM listing as Product Information records with Information Type = Image and sent with Actions > Send to Channel > Product Information > Images. How the image reaches the platform depends on the channel.
This applies to Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce and Magento:
| Platform | Upload a file from Business Central (Source Type Media Set) | Reference a hosted URL (Source Type URL) |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify | ✔ (staged upload, 3 API calls) | ✔ |
| BigCommerce | ✔ | – |
| Magento | ✔ (file content sent with the image request) | – |
| WooCommerce | – | ✔ only – the image must already be in the WooCommerce Media Library |
Note: Default image sources for new listings are set in Default Images on the sales channel (Manual, Item Picture, Item MediaSet, External) – see CSM Sales Channels - Listing Management.
Option 1: Upload a File
This applies to Shopify, BigCommerce and Magento:
Use when the image lives in Business Central (or on your PC) and is not hosted publicly.
- On the CSM listing choose Add Image. A Product Information record with Information Type Image is created.
- Open the record, set Source Type to Media Set, link the Media Set record containing the image file, and enter a Name.
- Back on the listing choose Actions > Send to Channel > Product Information > Images.
- Confirm External ID on the Product Information record is populated (the platform accepted the image), then check the product in the platform's admin.
This applies to Shopify: CSM requests a staged upload URL, uploads the file, then creates the file asset and attaches it. A Media Set link can also be used to upload an image to Shopify's file library without attaching it to a product.
Option 2: Reference a URL
This applies to Shopify and WooCommerce:
Use when the image is already hosted somewhere the platform can reach (CDN, S3, your website, a DAM).
- On the CSM listing choose Add Image.
- Open the record, set Source Type to URL, enter the image URL in Value and enter a Name.
- Choose Actions > Send to Channel > Product Information > Images.
- Confirm External ID is populated.
This applies to WooCommerce: if Value is blank, CSM builds the URL from the sales channel's API Image File Path + the record's CSM Name + file extension, so the file name in the WooCommerce Media Library must match CSM Name.
URL requirements
- Publicly reachable – no login, expired signed URL or IP allow-list.
- Points at the image file itself (
.jpg,.png,.webp…), not a page containing it. - Uses
https. - Meets the platform's file size and dimension limits.
Note: Shopify downloads external URLs asynchronously; the image can take a few seconds to appear after the action completes.
Troubleshooting
- Action completed but External ID is blank – the platform rejected the image. For URLs, test the link in a private browser window to confirm it loads without credentials.
- Image never appears in the platform admin – for URLs, wait a minute and refresh, then re-check the URL requirements.
- Error about a null file id (Shopify) – the file was not created before CSM tried to attach it. Confirm the record has a valid Media Set or reachable URL and send again.
This feature is currently not available for Amazon and Walmart.
